Kenya: an early-career pipeline for agriculture and green energy.
RTG is building a private early-career pipeline into Kenya's agriculture and green energy sectors: the entry-level roles employers are opening, the skills those roles need, and the people coming into them.
Where the entry level breaks down.
Agriculture employs a large share of Kenya's workforce, and green energy is adding roles that did not exist a decade ago. Both hire at the entry level, and both are changing faster than the training aimed at them.
People finish training without a route into the sectors that need them, and employers fill first roles from whoever happens to apply.
What it does, and who uses it.
What the pipeline does
- Records the entry-level roles employers are opening, by county and sub-sector
- Maps the skills those roles require
- Prepares candidates against them
- Places people into first roles and tracks how they progress
- Gives training providers a current picture of what the sectors hire for
Who uses it
- Agriculture and green energy employers
- People entering the two sectors
- Training providers and colleges
- Country and sectors
- Kenya, agriculture and green energy.
- What this is
- A private project: an early-career pipeline run with employers and training providers.
- Where the work stands
- RTG is building it now. The employers taking part are being confirmed before it opens.
- Partners
- Named here once each partner has agreed to be named.
- RTG's role
- Builds and runs the pipeline with the employers hiring into the two sectors.
What carries over from LiberiaWorks.
- The role and skills data model built for LiberiaWorks
- Candidate profiles and placement, proven at national scale
- A common standard for defining what a role requires
LiberiaWorks had to describe every role in an economy, the skills behind it, and the people who could fill it. The Kenya pipeline runs on the same model, pointed at entry-level hiring in two sectors.
Common questions.
- Is this a government programme?
- No. RTG runs it privately, with the employers hiring into agriculture and green energy and the providers training for them.
- Who is it for?
- People early in their working life who want to build a career in one of the two sectors, and the employers hiring into entry-level roles.
- Where does the Kenya work stand?
- RTG is building it now. The employers taking part are being confirmed before it opens.
